11 Year Old Christian Girl with Down Syndrome Arrested in Pakistan for Burning Quran

According to a report in the Indian Express, an 11 year old Christian girl was arrested and charged with blasphemy for allegedly burning a few pages of the Quran.

Some Christian organizations have asserted that the young girl is mentally handicapped, but this has not been confirmed.  Additional reports from CNN indicate that the girl was burning paper for fuel and was unaware that some of the pages were from the text of the Quran.  Others are saying that there were indeed no witnesses to the event, but just the rumors have created a firestorm of Islamic protests and threats.  Many of the Christian families in this small section of Islamabad have been forced to leave out of fear for their lives.

The girl will be held for 14 days in order for police to gather all the information possible, but even if charges end up being dropped, the chances of her returning to the life she knew are slim.
