They say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Well I'm here to argue that saying only applies when you eat breakfast during actual MORNING TIMES.

I was going to poll East Texans on whether or not they preferred breakfast menu items or lunch & dinner menu items at their favorite restaurants when something hit me.

We can agree that whether you eat there or not, Whataburger has become synonymous with Texas. You can see it all over the internet. The hilarious "war" Texas has with California over Whataburger vs. In-N-Out Burger, the Whataburger style clothes, or even the Texas couple that had their wedding photos in a Whataburger.

I realized that even though companies like McDonalds or Jack-in-the Box began serving breakfast items all day, Whataburger stops selling specific breakfast menu items after 11 am. It's almost like they know we'll wake our butts up and go get breakfast. That makes Whataburger feel even more "Texas" if you ask me. It reminds me of being at your Memaw's house, and she'll only tell you breakfast is on the table once. Then it gets cold, and then it goes to the dogs. You better wake up, and get while the gettin's good!

Other restaurants that do serve all day breakfast feel like you are staying with an aunt or uncle who want to really look cool in your eyes, so they sort of let you walk all over them and get snacks at times you really shouldn't be eating snacks.

It makes the items that much more special when things aren't within our grasp 24/7. That's why we can't get the McRib at any time, and peeps are only ever around during Easter ... well there's Halloween ones now too. But even with those limited time deals, it just feels like we're sitting back, waiting for them to come out. Waking up to beat the clock and get your hands on some taquitos is almost a magical experience.

Anyway, that's my rant. I guess I'll go ahead and poll my fellow East Texans anyway. How many of you say breakfast foods are the best, and how many prefer Whataburger breakfast to their normal burgers and fries?
