Move over, Ghostbusters and Ocean’s 8, there’s a new all-female reboot in town to ruin everyone’s childhoods! Warner Bros. has greenlit an all-gal Lord of the Flies adaptation from writers Scott McGehee and David Siegel that’ll make you never want to go on a camping trip with your buddies ever again.

William Golding’s Lord of the Flies, if you need a refresher or for some reason didn’t read it in your middle school English class, is about a group of schoolboys who are marooned on an island and left to fend for themselves. Far from an idyllic Swiss Family Robinson paradise, the situation soon turns shockingly violent as the boys attempt to govern themselves with only a surface knowledge of how the real adult world works. It’s been made into a film twice, once in 1963 and again in 1990, but McGehee and Siegel figured the world was ready for an update.

As Siegel told Deadline:

We want to do a very faithful but contemporized adaptation of the book, but our idea was to do it with all girls rather than boys. It is a timeless story that is especially relevant today, with the interpersonal conflicts and bullying, and the idea of children forming a society and replicating the behavior they saw in grownups before they were marooned.

The book disturbed me (and hopefully most people) as a youngster, but I can’t help but be intrigued by an all-girl version. I do have one stipulation though: Warner Bros., if you can hear me, please, please get a female director for this job.
