An Important Date for the Sr. and Jr. Williams This Day In Country Music – May 26th (Video)

The legend of Hank Williams Sr. and Jr. hold May 26th as an important date.  Today we feature the video for “The Conversation”, a song that addresses many of the rumors.

2009 – Dwight Yoakam performs on “The Tonight Show” becoming the final country artist to appear on the NBC program during Jay Leno’s first tenure as host.


2007 – Billy Currington takes “Good Directions” to #1 in Billboard.


2005 – Faith Hill’s “Mississippi Girl” video debuts on CMT.


2004 – Toby Keith wins four times in CBS’ 39th annual Academy of Country Music Awards at Las Vegas’ Mandalay Bay. Keith claims Entertainer of the Year; Top Male Vocalist; Album, for “Shock’n Y’all”; and Video, for the Willie Nelson duet “Beer For My Horses”.


2002 – Elton John and Ryan Adams appear on “CMT Crossroads.” Their collaborations include a version of Jim Reeves’ “He’ll Have To Go” and a performance of Jerry Lee Lewis’ “Great Balls Of Fire”.


1992 – Brooks & Dunn net their first gold album, with their debut, “Brand New Man”.


1973 – Jeanne Pruett notches a #1 single in Billboard with her signature song, “Satin Sheets”.


1959 – Keyboard player Dave Robbins born in Atlanta, Georgia. A co-writer of Restless Heart’s “The Bluest Eyes In Texas,” he becomes one-third of the harmony-intensive group BlackHawk, scoring a series of hook-laden hits in the 1990s.


1949 – Hank Williams Jr. born in Shreveport, Louisiana. The son of country legend Hank Williams, he develops his own career, taking entertainer of the year in 1987 from both the Country Music Association and the Academy of Country Music.

1948 – Hank and Audrey Williams’ first divorce is finalized.


1933 – Jimmie Rodgers, suffering from tuberculosis, dies of a massive hemorrhage at the Hotel Taft in New York. Nicknamed the Singing Brakeman, he became country music’s first superstar, and, in 1961, the first person inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
