Angelina County United Way Exceeds Goal for 66th Straight Year
How do you celebrate hitting your fundraising goal for the 66th straight year? It's a silly string party! And this year's chairperson of the Angelina County United Way fund drive, Mark Hicks, was the proud recipient of the string bath.
Of course, Hicks wasn't alone in the fundraising effort as division chairpersons leading area communities, schools, businesses, and general solicitations greatly contributed to the goal once again being reached.
Going into the final week of the current drive nearly 70% of the goal had been reached, but as has been the case for many years, the employees of Lufkin Industries helped put United Way over the top with a donation for 2013 of over $268,000. That allowed the United Way to reach a total of $577,637, well exceeding their goal of $475,000.
The United Way of Angelina County uses this money to help support over 20 agencies in the area including C.A.S.A., Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Hospice in the Pines, Salvation Army, and many others.
