The Texas UIL Cross Country State Championships were held Saturday morning in Round Rock and several East Texas schools did the Pineywoods proud. 

Leading the charge was the Hudson Boys Cross Country team.  They finished 2nd in the Class 4A division.  Senior Sam Farrell led the way placing 4th with a time of 16.08 minutes on a demanding course of just over 3 miles. Sophomore Gerardo Rodriguez finished 22nd with at time of 17.02.

In other boys cross country action, the Central Bulldogs placed 10th overall in Class 3A.  Junior Mason Snelson crossed the line in 15th place with a time of 16.58,  Sophomore Carter Vaughan came in 42nd with a time of 17.31. In Class 5A competition, Lufkin junior Levonte Williams came in with a time of 16.30, good for a 22nd place finish.

In girls action, the Douglass Cross Country Team claimed 2nd place in team honors in Class 1A.  Senior Emma Roquemore had a time of 13.33, good for 22nd individually.  Teammate Natalie Read, a freshman, was not far behind with a time of 13.39.

In Class 2A, Shelbyville finished 13th as a team and Cushing took 15th place in the state.  Freshman Keanna Osby led the Dragons with a 12th place finish and a time of 12.44.  Junior Margaret Carpenter led Cushing with a time of 13.21.  Mikaela Eastwood of Zavalla placed in the top 50 for the Lady Eagles with a time of 13.15.  In Class 4A, the Hudson girls placed 15th overall.  Sophomore Christina Hernandez (13.02) and Junior Holly Ratcliff (13.03) lead the way.
