Husband and wife team Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton held hands while performing ‘America the Beautiful’ together before the kickoff of Super Bowl 2012. It was a show of solidarity, and perhaps a way to calm each other’s nerves, as the couple sang while the whole country watched. Many performers before them have flubbed when singing songs at sporting events, but Lambert and Shelton delivered a mistake-free rendition dosed with a little country twang.
The northern California man who was shot by his own father over the fact that he was singing a country song on karaoke has come forward to make a shocking statement: He doesn’t want his father to be charged!
Karaoke can get you nearly killed. That’s what a Shingletown, Calif. man learned on Thursday of last week (Jan. 26) when his 70-year-old father shot him because he was annoyed by a country song he was singing on karaoke.
The Super Bowl commercial blitz is upon us almost a week before the big game between the New York Giants and the New England Patriots. With Elton John’s commercial already generating some chatter, country artists are also getting in on the Super Bowl spot fun. Sugarland‘s Jennifer Nettles recorded a classic song for a memorable and super funny Pepsi Max commercial. The 30-second commercial will air during the game, but the long-form version is already viewable online.
Reba McEntire is the latest celebrity to fall victim to a death hoax that’s spreading like wildfire on the web. The alleged news of her death has circulated so quickly that ‘Reba McEntire’ became the No. 1 trending search topic on Google late Monday evening (Jan. 30). Her latest Facebook wall update has been flooded with desperate comments from fans hoping and praying that a report that the singer had fallen to her death while climbing a mountain on an Austrian movie set is untrue.
Kellie Pickler‘s new album is called ’100 Proof,’ and she brought it to ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show,’ both literally and figuratively. She performed ‘Where’s Tammy Wynette,’ which is the first song on the new album. She also gifted Ellen DeGeneres, who had a birthday earlier this week, with a jar of moonshine!
It’s been a Carrie Underwood-centric day in the country community. Fresh off today’s announcement that her new single ‘Good Girl‘ is due to drop at radio next month, one of Underwood’s songs was performed on her former stomping grounds of ‘American Idol.’
Teenage singer Shelby Tweten, who hails from Mankato, Minn., inhabited Underwood’s ‘Temporary Home’ during her audition in Aspen, Colo. for Season 11 of ‘Idol.’
Garth Brooks was awarded $1 million in his lawsuit against a hospital in his native Oklahoma. The lawsuit came about to due a dispute over a donation in exchange for naming a wing of the facility after his late mother. Even though Brooks likely doesn’t need the money as one of the most successful country stars ever, it was a matter of principle for him — and the jury agreed. The $1 million includes his original donation, plus punitive damages, according to Reuters.
It’s been a whirlwind and well-documented year for Scotty McCreery with his ‘American Idol‘ win, his No. 1 hit album ‘Clear As Day,’ his busy touring and interview schedule and the time he reserves for family and friends. He’s also going to continue to mix work with school, as he has applied to several colleges — and has just revealed that he’s been accepted to East Carolina. Must be fun to fill out those tedious applications and write those corresponding essays all the while being pranked while on tour with notorious jokester Brad Paisley.
Former ‘American Idol‘ winner Carrie Underwood and current ‘Idol’ judge Steven Tyler will team up yet again. After performing together at the ACMs in April 2011, Underwood and Tyler will give it another go and attempt to recreate their onstage electricity and magic as part of the ‘CMT Crossroads’ series on Super Bowl weekend.
Garth Brooks is learning the hard way that no good deed goes unpunished. The Oklahoma native is set to appear in a courtroom in Rogers County today (Jan. 17) to face an aging lawsuit over a donation he made to a local hospital. The long-lingering suit is finally going to trial with jury selection scheduled to take place in the early part of the afternoon.
