Blake Shelton set out to bring real, simple country music back to country radio with his "I Lived It" lyrics.

Written by the powerhouse foursome of Rhett Akins, Ashley Gorley, Ben Hayslip and Ross Copperman, "I Lived It" is a perfectly-drawn elegy to times gone by, with Shelton looking back on his simple country raising over a backdrop of acoustic guitars.

"Oh, you think I'm talking crazy / In a different language you might not understand / Oh, that's alright / That's just the kind of life that made me who I am / Just taking my mind on a visit / Back in time 'cause I miss it / You wouldn't know to love it like I love it / Unless you lived it / And man, I lived it," he sings in the chorus.

"This thing is so country, it seems like a throwback, you know, to country music," Shelton says in a behind-the-scenes video about the song. "If we can still get something like that played on the radio where we might be on borrowed time here, you know, I'd like to get something like that out there while we still can."

The "I Lived It" lyrics have resonated deeply with his fans, Shelton says, for their sincerity and relatability. One line of the song says, "Uncle Joe put tobacco on my hand where them yellow jackets tore me up."

"I hadn't noticed, in the past couple years, a song that I've released that so many people come up and they have something to say about the song and what it means to 'em," Shelton reflects. "'My uncle actually did put tobacco on my freakin' hand when I got stung,' all these things that they relate to, they wanna tell you about it, you know. It's pretty cool."

The down-home simplicity of the "I Lived It" lyrics, along with the song's easygoing musical track and a wistful vocal performance from Shelton, propelled it to No. 5 on Billboard's Country Airplay chart, a feat which Shelton says bears out his team's decision to release the song as the second single from his current album, Texoma Shore.

"I wanted to get this out there, one more stab at getting a simple country ballad out there and played on the radio, and my god, look at it!" he marvels. "It's in the Top 5. It's just been exciting to see it jump up there and doing well, you know, and people relate to it."

It's True, Blake Has Lived It and We Got Proof!

Blake Shelton's "I Lived It Lyrics":

Daddy drove the wheels off a flatbed Ford / Flies found a hole in the old screen door / Granny said the dress that my sister wore to church wasn't long enough / Mama poured grease in a Crisco can / Put a hundred thousand miles on a Sears box fan / Uncle Joe put tobacco on my hand where them yellow jackets torn me up / And I ain't making this up.

Chorus:
Oh, you think I'm talking crazy / In a different language you might not understand / Oh, that's alright / That's just the kind of life that made me who I am / Just taking my mind on a visit / Back in time 'cause I miss it / You wouldn't know to love it like I love it unless you lived it / And man, I lived it.

Granddaddy smoked Salems with the windows up / Drove me around in the back of that truck / We drank from the hose and spit in the cup / We all survived somehow / Them old Duke boys, they're flattening their heels / Hollywood was fake, wrestling was real / Wouldn't dream of spending that two dollar bill from pushing a lawnmower around / I'd go back there right now.
