Blake Shelton is making a difference in the lives of hundreds of kids who are battling cancer. The singer has donated $600,000 to the Jimmy Everest Cancer Center — the only full-service children's cancer program in his home state.

The generous act was prompted by a personal experience. Shelton's cousin's young daughter Aspen had a cancer scare about a year ago, the superstar told the crowd at his Oklahoma City show on Saturday (Sept. 10), bringing Aspen and her mom on stage as he shared the story.

“We didn’t know what was going to happen,” he added. She was treated at the Jimmy Everest Center. “You can see that she’s here right now."

Shelton was moved to help children who are in the same situation and have not yet seen the positive outcome that Aspen did. “They don’t turn any kids away. You come in there, you got a problem, they don’t turn anybody away, so I thought ‘That’s a place that needs some money,'” he explained.

Shelton then presented the check to representatives from the center, crediting the crowd, because the funds included proceeds from the show.

“You people who bought a ticket to be here tonight and the people who bought a ticket last night you did a real good thing. I want you to know that,” he declared. “This is our money, Oklahoma."

The Oklahoma City shows kicked off Shelton's fall tour, which runs through Oct. 8. He’s about to start his 11th season with The Voice, which kicks off on Sept. 19, but this time he’s got some country competition in new coach Miley Cyrus. The two are rumored to duke it out during the Audition Rounds for the prime country talent — a genre that has typically been dominated by Shelton, whose proteges include RaeLynn, the Swon Brothers, Danielle Bradbery and Cassadee Pope.
