Around 2 p.m. on Thursday, up to four persons pulled a 'smash and grab' heist at Beard Fine Jewelers located on the South Loop and Highway 59 in Lufkin.  No one was injured in the robbery and law enforcement are continuing their search for the culprits. 

According to the official Lufkin Police Department news release,the Lufkin Police Department received a call advising that four subjects were robbing the establishment.  A witness gave the license plate and description of the suspect vehicle.  Officers responded to the area and located the suspect vehicle abandoned in a nearby parking lot.  The vehicle had been reported stolen the day before from a local shopping center.  It is believed that the suspects may have gotten into a small, newer model, tan or beige suv; possibly a Ford Edge.

Detectives and other officers went to the store and made contact with the employees.  Detectives learned that four subjects wearing masks entered the store causing the employees to seek safety at the back of the business.  The suspects then began breaking the jewelry cases, taking an assortment of jewelry and leaving the store.  A total value of the stolen jewelry is not known at this time.
