UPDATE (11 AM):

The pedestrian who was struck appears to have suffered a broken arm but is not believed to be critically injured.

He told officers at the hospital that he was walking home from a nearby convenience store and attempted to beat the train to prevent standing in the rain for an unknown amount of time while the train passed.

The railroad crossing at Feagin and Pershing is now clear.

ORIGINAL STORY

Lufkin Police Department is on the scene of an accident in which a pedestrian was hit by a train.

The pedestrian was taken to a local hospital with unknown injuries following the accident which occurred around 9:45 a.m. at the Feagin at Pershing railroad crossing. Union Pacific is also on the scene.

The railroad crossing is currently blocked and will remain blocked while the investigation is conducted. Avoid the area if at all possible.
