Brooks & Dunn’s Last Rodeo This Day in Country Music – September 2nd (Video)

1991 – Capitol releases Garth Brooks’ “Ropin’ The Wind” album.

 

1990 – Tracy Lawrence arrives in Nashville from Arkansas in a run-down Toyota. He signs his first recording deal with Atlantic within a year.

 

1978 – Kathy Mattea moves to Nashville with a mattress on top of her car.

 

1978 – Willie Nelson’s version of the Irving Berlin song “Blue Skies” reaches #1 on the Billboard country chart.

 

1973 – Jerry Lewis gets help on his muscular dystrophy telethon from country stars Johnny Cash, Roy Clark, Johnny Rodriguez, Minnie Pearl, Sonny James, Faron Young, Conway Twitty, George Jones & Tammy Wynette.

 

1959 – Drummer Paul Deakin is born in Miami, Florida. He helps found The Mavericks, whose eclectic brand of country nets two awards apiece from the Country Music Association and Academy of Country Music as Vocal Group of the Year in the 1990s.
