According to a KBTX report, a Bryan, Texas police officer responding to a robbery at Stripes Convenience Store early Thursday morning was shot by a gunman in the act of robbing the store in the 2000 Block of South College Drive.

The KBTX report goes on to quote the Bryan Police Chief as saying that bullet proof vest worn by the officer saved him from serious injury.  That officer has been treated and released from a local hospital.

The situation remains fluid as officers have cordoned off a large area in the hunt for those responsible for the robbery and shooting.
