Don't put away the heavy jackets just yet. A strong cold front has stormed across East Texas Monday morning bringing temperatures into the 50s with wind chills 10-15 degrees below that. And now we have the possibility of ICE??!!
Early this Friday afternoon severe storms are starting to pop up across the Hill Country and North Central Texas, and forecasters are expecting some of the storms to bring nasty weather to the Pineywoods by later this afternoon and evening.
It seems that most of the folks I've talked to are more than ready for Spring to get here. The warmer weather is welcome especially when considering the 4 ice/snow events that we had over the past 2 months.
Significant freezing rain has been falling mainly south of the Lufkin and Nacogdoches are overnight. A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for Polk, San Jacinto, and Walker counties. A Winter Weather Advisory continues in effect through the morning for Angelina and Nacogdoches counties. Icing on roadways has been reported throughout Polk county and southwestern Trinity county.
Wintry precipitation is moving into East Texas again, and we're in for more icy roads. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect overnight for Sabine, San Augustine, and Shelby counties. A Winter Weather Advisory continues for Angelina, Nacogdoches, and many surrounding counties.
East Texas is about to have another round of cold temperatures and icy conditions. We will be keeping a close eye on the system as it makes it’s way through our listening area, and pass along any and all delays and closures of schools, businesses, or other organizations
Sleet, snow, and freezing rain are possible again in the Pineywoods, but as is usually the case, you'll probably be running the air coniditioner by the end of the week. A Winter Weather Advisory is in place for portions of East Texas beginning late tonight.
Areas of light snow, sleet, and freezing rain have been falling across parts of the Pineywoods today and the chance of more wintry mix for area continues through Friday night. As a result, Texas Department of Transportation crews have begun the process of treating bridges and overpasses.
