Tornado Warnings Issued In East Texas

The National Weather Service has issued tornado warnings for portions of Nacogdoches, Shelby, Sabine, and San Augustine counties.  Two storm cells are causing these warnings.  The first storm cell is located near Arcadia which is about 15 miles southwest of Center, the other cell is located just east of San Augustine.  Both cells are moving southeast.

Tornado Watch Allowed To Expire, Severe Storms Still Possible For East Texas

10pm, 4/3/2012

Well, the good news is that we haven't had any tornado warnings issued in Texas since before 7pm, but a severe thunderstorm watch is in place for Angelina, Nacogdoches, Shelby, Tyler, Cherokee, Rusk, Sabine, Panola, Newton, Jasper, and San Augustine counties until 3am.  Another severe thunderstorm watch is in place until 1am for Polk, Trinity, and Houston counties.

Tornado Watch Now In Effect For East Texas Until 10pm




8:30pm, 4/3/2012

The good news is that no tornado warnings have been issued in the past hour and a half, however, severe storms with up to golf ball sized hail and winds gusting to 60mph still remain rather common across parts of East Texas.

A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect until 9:15 for Cherokee County.  Severe storms can be expected in Rusk and Alto within the next hour.  A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for Polk, Trinity, and Houston counties. A tornado watch remains in effect for Angelina, Nacogdoches, and many surrounding counties until 10pm.

Tornados Touching Down Near D/FW Metroplex

This is a picture from the Texas Storm Chasers Facebook page which shows a tornado that touched down between Cleburne and Joshua close to 12:30 this afternoon.

Tornado warnings have been posted throughout several counties in and near the Metroplex and the situation as of 1:30 remains quite active and dangerous.

Severe Thunderstorm warning now issued until 12:30 for portions of Nacogdoches, Sabine, Shelby, and San Augustine Counties.  Severe storms located near San Augustine to near Chireno to North of Nacogdoches.  Strong storms also indicated near Alto.

Tornadoes, Flash Flooding Possible Tuesday In East Texas


UPDATED 3/20, 8:15am

Heavy showers and some thunderstorms are moving across the Pineywoods.  The heaviest rain is in Northeastern Nacogdoches county.  Heavy storms also indicated south of Lake Livingston.  Flash Flood Warnings have been posted for the Tyler/Whitehouse area.  Also, a tornado warning for central Harris county (Houston) has been issued.  A Flash Flood Watch continues until tomorrow morning for all of East Texas.

Beginning this afternoon and continuing through Sunday, a major rain event is expected across the eastern third of Texas, including the Pineywoods.
