Virginia Tech appears to be reliving its worst nightmare as reports of a shooting have placed the university under lockdown.

Today marks the 70th anniversary of the 'day that will live in infamy'. 2403 brave men and women lost their lives on December 7th, 1941.  To many, unfortunately, it's just a number. I was able to find a video which scrolls the names of all who were killed...it certainly gives you a better personal appreciation of the loss of life. A woman in Ireland is unable to list the name of her hometown on her Facebook profile because it’s Effin, Ireland. Not “f***in’ Ireland”… Effin, Ireland.

On Monday morning, Michael A. Davitt, a former New York State employee and known rabblerouser, delayed traffic on the Tappan Zee bridge in Rockland County. As a form of protest, he unfurled a rope ladder from the bridge and sat for hours with a 24-foot banner that accused county officials of a “cover-up.”

In a White House briefing held Friday, President Obama announced the remaining American troops in Iraq will be home by the end of the year, closing a war effort there that has killed more than 4,400 US servicepeople and wounded 32,000 more since 2003. “After nine years, America’s war in Iraq will be over,” the president said.

Former Libyan dictator Muammar Gadhafi, who’s been in hiding since August when a NATO-backed rebel force seized his headquarters in Tripoli, was killed on Thursday after rebels stormed his hometown of Sirte, where the last remnants of troops loyal to him were hiding. He was 69 years old.

According to media outlets, Libyan officials are announcing the death of former Libyan dictator Muammar Gadhafi by wounds suffered when an eight-month-old revolution effort overran his hometown of Sirte.

Amanda Knox, the American woman convicted of murder by an Italian court in 2009, has been freed after an appeals court overturned the decision on Monday. Her co-defendant and former boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, was cleared as well.
