The Special Response Team arrested a Lufkin man Friday for dealing marijuana out of a home on Forest Park Blvd. following several citizen complaints regarding drug activity in the area.

According to a Lufkin Police press release,  David Lee Watts Jr., 32, is charged with delivery of marijuana while his girlfriend Laneshia Shonta Johnson, 38, is charged with possession of marijuana after the search warrant was ran at 216 Forest Park Blvd.
A search of the home uncovered marijuana, an undisclosed amount of money and drug paraphernalia.

Special Services Division Sgt. Travis Strickland said that though they are currently working investigations on several houses in the Lufkin area, citizens should never just assume the Department is aware of drug activity and opt not to report it.

“Report it to the Department or anonymously through Crime Stoppers,” Strickland said. “The Citizens of Lufkin are by far our greatest asset to helping us shut these operations down.”

Strickland said it is also important for citizens to keep in mind that narcotics investigations take time.

“When enough evidence is gathered to obtain a search warrant for the property and an arrest warrant for the dealer, the execution of the search warrant is just the next step in the investigation,” he said. “SSU investigators continue to follow up and gather additional information for the prosecution of the dealer and in this instance, the SSU investigator will continue to follow up on leads in relation to Mr. Watts’ illegal Narcotics Trafficking”.

To report drug activity in your neighborhood, call the Department at 936-633-0356 or if you wish to remain anonymous, Crime Stoppers at 936-639-TIPS.
