In 1998, when I made my first trip to St Jude Children's Research Hospital for the Country Cares Seminar, the guest speaker was country singer Kevin Sharp.  I was saddened to hear that Sharp passed away Saturday at the age of 43.

Kevin Sharp was diagnosed in high school with bone cancer in his leg and was subjected to experimental treatment.  He was approached by the Make-A-Wish Foundation and he indicated that he wanted to fulfill his dream of recording a song.  Fast forward a few months and Sharp not only realized his dream, but the song, 'Nobody Knows', went to Number One and led to a short-lived, yet successful country music career.

More importantly, Sharp went on to be a spokesperson and leader for children battling catastrophic illnesses.  Sharp's health started to deteriorate in 2011.  Complications from ongoing surgeries was partly to blame for his death.
