Is Dan + Shay’s ‘Speechless’ a Hit? Listen and Sound Off!
Dan + Shay's "Speechless" is a song about how happily in love Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney are with their wives. The song finds them reminiscing about seeing their better halves walking down the aisle on their respective wedding days.
“Speechless is definitely inspired by our wives,” Mooney reiterates. “It’s very cool to release songs that are not only stories of our lives but also very personal experiences. Seeing our wives for the first time in their wedding dresses was absolutely unforgettable and we talked about that while writing the song and bringing that moment to life in this song.”
The duo wrote the track with Jordan Reynolds and Laura Veltz. "Speechless" details an everlasting kind of love.
"It started when you said hello / Just did something to me / And I've been in a daze / Ever since the day that we meet / You take the breath out of my lungs / Can't even fight it," they sing on the nostalgic ballad.
The music video adds emotion, because footage from both Mooney and Smyers' weddings is included. Light piano accompaniment, guitar and percussion allow Mooney's captivating vocals and the duo's memorable lyrics to shine. It's sure to be the wedding song of 2018.
Did You Know?: This isn't the first time Dan + Shay have written with Jordan Reynolds. He also helped write their previous No. 1 hit, "Tequila."
Dan + Shay's "Speechless" Lyrics:
You say you'll be down in five / The smell of your perfume is floating down the stairs / You're fixing up your hair like you do / I know that I'll be a mess / The second that I see you / You won't be surprised / It happens every time / It's nothing new / It's always on a night like tonight / I thank God you can read my mind / 'Cause when you look at me with those eyes
I'm speechless / Staring at you, standing there in that dress / What it's doing to me, ain't a secret / 'Cause watching you is all that I can do / And I'm speechless / You already know that you're my weakness / After all this time I'm just as nervous / Every time you walk into the room / I'm speechless
It started when you said hello / Just did something to me / And I've been in a daze / Ever since the day that we meet / You take the breath out of my lungs / Can't even fight it / And all of the words out of my mouth without even trying
It's always on a night like tonight / I think that you can read my mind / 'Cause when you look at me with those eyes
Oh, you know it, baby, oh oh
