I made the pledge on my 49th birthday that I wanted to lose 50 pounds by the time I turned 50.  Well, one month down, and things are going well.  I've lost 6 pounds and I've established a regular routine of exercise including jogging.

Apparently my quest of 50 by 50 caught the attention of some folks in the area who have challenged me participate in an upcoming event.  Junior AchievementLufkin Area Pace Setters (LAPS), and Whataburger have teamed up to present the first ever Race for Success.

This event will take place on Saturday, December 21st and will feature 5K, 10K, and half-marathon races.  All races will start and end at Slack Elementary School in Lufkin.  Click here for a listing of the various routes.  By the way, I have accepted the challenge and I will be participating in the 10K race.  My goal is to run continuously for 70 minutes to finish that race.

Registrations are currently being taken online and fees vary according to race.  The registration fee will go up by $10 on November 1st.  All proceeds will benefit Junior Achievement of Lufkin.
