Dierks Bentley is a little superstitious. Each year, the "Black" singer takes his annual lake jump but 2017 got off to a slow start. Several days late into making his polar plunge, Bentley accounted for each day with an extra minute in 38 degrees water.

"I'm very superstitious," he admits in a video uploaded to Facebook. "I can't miss this. We've done it every year for 15 years. I'm here by myself. To make up for the fact that I'm late I'm going to try and do one minute for every day that I've been late. I'm going to go for 13 minutes which is crazy. I feel like I gotta make good on missing the lake jump. It's 38 degrees. It's really cold. So here goes."

Following his introduction, Bentley slowly walked into the freezing lake with his GoPro in hand.

"Wow. Wow, wow, wow," he exclaims. Five minutes into things, he admits that he's a little dizzy while trying to tell himself the water is warm.

Nine minutes in, he becomes even braver as he decides to dunk himself under the water. He proves a champ as he lasts for 14 minutes in the Nashville lake.

"I'm so looking forward to this tour, 2017," he says once upon dry land. "Having Cole Swindell and Jon Pardi. I can't imagine it not being the most fun tour of the year. I'm feeling good. I'm ready for it. See you guys on the road!"

During a media roundtable at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. last weekend Swindell expressed gratitude that unlike previous Bentley Tour openers, he didn't have to jump in the water with the headliner.

"That was the only thing I was not looking forward to about touring with Dierks Bentley, but I got to get out of it somehow," the singer says. "He'll get me back somehow, so I better hush." In 2015, Kip Moore, Maddie & Tae and Canaan Smith joined him in the water.

Bentley kicks off his What the Hell World Tour on Jan. 21 in Nashville, Tenn.
