The Texas Department of Transportation is still reporting a number of East Texas roads that are a bit on the slushy side. Exercise extreme caution if you have to be on the area roadways.

Also, keep in mind, that with lows tonight near 22, any melting ice could again refreeze and make for hazardous driving in the early morning hours. Check out the complete release of road conditions from TXDOT after the bump.

TxDOT crews continue to monitor roadways

Lufkin, Texas – Motorists are urged to slow down and drive to conditions as snow and ice continue to fall on East Texas roadways. Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) crews continue to monitor bridges and overpasses this morning and spread rock where needed.

Despite the fact that ice has formed on roadways, bridges and overpasses, there have been no road closures throughout the nine-county area other than the third level bridges at U.S. 59 and Loop 287(S) in Lufkin. Both the northbound and southbound bridges will remain closed until further notice. TxDOT offices continue to receive calls from motorists regarding slick spots they encounter. All drivers are warned to slow down and drive cautiously.

“Just because you don’t see ice on the roadways and structures, doesn't mean it is not there,” said TxDOT spokesperson Kathi White. “Drive to conditions and expect that there are slick and icy areas out there and expect it to remain so as rain, snow and/or sleet continue to fall. Slow down!”

Some 150 district maintenance and construction employees have been working shifts around the clock to make the roadways as safe as possible.
