8 volleyball players at a Texas University were hospitalized due to a condition which is sometimes caused by overexertion.  The coach of that team has resigned.

According to a report in the Dallas Morning News, eight players from the Texas Woman's University located in Denton were recently hospitalized with a condition identified as rhabdomyolysis.  This occurs when muscle tissue breaks down and releases proteins into the blood stream.  Extreme exertion is sometimes the cause of this condition.   All of the players are expected to recover.

In a related story, the head coach for the team, Shelly Barberee, resigned from her post on August 12th.  The coach has emphasized that her resignation was in no way related to the recent news of the hospitalization of team members.
