On Friday morning, Central Texas woke up to severe weather and to torrential downpours.  Areas from New Braunfels to Austin received nearly a foot of rain.

Many creeks and rivers quickly topped their banks and became massive currents of water.  One of those was Onion Creek which is located in Southern Travis County near Austin.

During a live segment, KVUE-TV anchorman (and former KTRE Sports Director) Brian Mays did a phone interview with a man who had earlier sent a phone video he had taken of his car being swept away...with him still inside. Little did Mays and his co-anchor realize that the man had not yet been rescued.  Kerry Packard of Austin had been able to exit the window of his car and climb a tree to temporary safety, but the fact that he was still in harm's way came as a shock to the TV anchors.

We're happy to report that after a four hour ordeal, Packard was rescued by emergency responders.
