What was supposed to be a joke has turned out to be a horrific tragedy that has cost a Fort Hood soldier his life.

According to a report from TV station KXXV, 27-year-old Patrick Myers was with friends at a home in Killeen Sunday night watching football.  Myers told officers that he was trying to cure a friend who had the hiccups by scaring him with a gun.  He pointed the gun at his friend's face and the weapon discharged.  Myers told police that he thought that only dummy rounds were in the pistol.

Spc. Myers is being held on manslaughter charges on $1 million bond.  The name of the 22-year-old victim has not been released.
