The Nacogdoches Pro Rodeo and Steer Show is coming up March 23rd-25th at the Exposition and Civic Center.  That also means it's mutton bustin' time.

Beginning at 7 each night (an hour before the rodeo), 15 youngsters will try their best to stay on the back of a sheep for the chance to be the champion mutton buster.

First things first.  Kid's names must be registered at Boot Barn in Nacogdoches, 3801 North Street in order to have the chance to be drawn as a rider.  Here are some of the particulars:

  • Child must be between 3-7 years of age
  • Child must weigh 60 pounds or less
  • Helmet and vest for each rider will be provided
  • Deadline for registration is Friday, March 17th.
  • Riders will be announced Monday, March 20th on the Merrell in the Morning Show.

Other rules and information are available at the registration counter at Boot Barn.

And for those looking for a different way to ride a sheep...
