Hank Williams, Jr. has been a longtime supporter of U.S. troops, and now he's being recognized for his efforts. The singer will be given the Patriot Award by Operation Troop Aid (OTA), a nonprofit organization which supports deployed U.S. troops.

Williams, Jr. will receive the Eagle Trophy on Dec. 31, when he headlines the New Year's Eve 'Bash on Broadway' in Nashville. He'll be ending 2013 on a very good note, joining past Patriot Award recipients Toby Keith, Charlie Daniels and many others.

The prestigious trophy is presented annually by OTA to celebrities that champion the men and women serving in the American Armed Forces, and the southern rock and country legend has given his share of service. Well-known for his role as an American Patriot, Williams, Jr. has performed at various military bases and continues to meet military personnel at every concert appearance. Plus, the 'Family Tradition' singer has participated in countless endeavors to support troops overseas and at local hospitals, and for supporting numerous military charities.

"I am extremely honored to award Hank Williams, Jr. the 2013 Patriot Award," says OTA founder Mark Woods. "His art, legacy of family and spirit of patriotism is exactly why this award exists. He never forgot his roots and why we have the freedom we do in America."

The country star recently wrapped up a 2013 summer headlining tour, where he combined his deep passion for patriotic songs with his charismatic stage presence. Williams, Jr., one of the most political country singers, may disagree with the current President, but he shows that he has a big heart for our troops.
