Happy Birthday Junior Brown This Day in Country Music – June 12th (Video)

1952 – Jamieson “Junior” Brown is born in Kirksville, Indiana. Hailed for his instrumental work on his self-designed guit-steel, he becomes a critics’ favorite in the 1990s and wins the Country Music Association’s video award for “My Wife Thinks You’re Dead”.

 

2009 – Shania Twain speaks to fans for the first time about her split from Robert John “Mutt” Lange in an online letter, saying she’s “inspired by my pain to write.” She also notes she’s gone skydiving and deep-sea diving for the first time.

 

2004 – Terri Clark becomes the first Canadian-born female to join the Grand Ole Opry.

 

2002 – Kenny Chesney is the only double-winner at the inaugural CMT Flameworthy Video Music Awards, taking honors for the video to “Young” at Nashville’s Gaylord Entertainment Center.

 

2002 – The Dixie Chicks’ “Long Time Gone” video premieres on CMT, immediately following the “CMT Flameworthy Video Music Awards”.

 

2001 – A three-mile segment of Highway 92 in Paulding County, Georgia, is renamed the Travis Tritt Highway. Signs are also erected billing the county as the “Home of Country Music Star Travis Tritt”.

 

1997 – LeAnn Rimes performs the national anthem at the Ballpark in Arlington when the Texas Rangers host the San Francisco Giants in the first interleague game in baseball history. The Giants win, 4-3.

 

1985 – Chris Young is born in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. He wins “Nashville Star” in 2006, earning an Academy of Country Music awards nomination and building a hit list that includes “Gettin’ You Home (The Black Dress Song),” “Voices” and “Tomorrow”.

 

1976 – Crystal Gayle notches her first #1 country single in Billboard with “I’ll Get Over You”.

 

1973 – Dolly Parton records “Jolene” during the afternoon at RCA Studio B in Nashville.
