It's National Margarita Day and it falls on a Friday!  Not that you really need an extra reason to have a margarita, but I'm sure the makes of tequila and triple sec certainly won't mind if you honor the day with a drink or two.  I've included some margarita recipes that certainly look tempting...feel free to include some of your own in the comment section.

Avocado Margarita (Austin)

This recipe is based on the popular avocado margarita made famous by Curra’s Grill.

  • 1 ripe and delicious avocado
  • ¼ cup fresh lemon or lime juice
  • 2 cups crushed ice
  • ½ cup tequila
  • ¼ cup triple sec

How to:

Blend well, then rub the rim of the glass with lime and dip in a coarse sea salt and chili pepper mix.

Laid-Back Beer-garita (San Diego)

Use a light, refreshing Mexican beer for best results. We recommend Pacifico, Negra Modelo, or even Corona.

  • 1 lime, cut into 8 wedges
  • 1/4 cup kosher or margarita salt, for the rims
  • 2 12-oz bottles your favorite beer, chilled
  • 1/2 cup frozen limeade, thawed
  • 1/2 cup chilled tequila
  • Ice cubes

How to:

Rub lime wedges around rims of four margarita glasses. Dip rims into salt to coat lightly. In a medium pitcher, combine beer, limeade, and tequila. Fill prepared glasses with ice, then with margarita mixture. Garnish with lime wedges. Makes four servings.
