1997 - Alabama hosts its final June Jam in Fort Payne, Alabama. The lineup includes Heartland, a band that waits another nine years before scoring its first hit single.

1976 - Reba McEntire marries Charlie Battles at the First Baptist Church in Stringtown, Oklahoma. They honeymoon in Texas, where they promote her latest single to radio stations.

1972 - Allison Moorer born in Frankville, Alabama. The younger sister of Shelby Lynne earns an Oscar nomination for her song "A Soft Place To Fall," included in the movie "The Horse Whisperer".

1964 - Guitarist Porter Howell born in Longview, Texas. He helps found Little Texas, a thick-harmonied vocal group that becomes a major act during the mid-1990s, behind their hits "God Blessed Texas," "What Might Have Been" and "Kick A Little".

1959 - Kathy Mattea born in Cross Lanes, West Virginia. Deftly balancing art and commercialism, she nabs a pair of Grammy awards and is twice named the Country Music Association's female vocalist of the year.
