Former Heisman Trophy finalist Tyrann “Honey Badger” Mathieu and three former LSU football players were arrested Thursday and charged with a variety of drug crimes.

According to police, former Tigers quarterback Jordan Jefferson was confronted after allegedly trying to force his way through the security gate at a Baton Rouge apartment complex. When police arrived, they found Jefferson in Mathieu’s apartment along with two other former players, Derrick Bryant and Karnell Hatcher, and 10 bags of “high-grade” marijuana and other drug paraphernalia.

All four of the former Tigers were booked into prison Thursday night. Mathieu and Jefferson were each charged with possession of marijuana. Hatcher was charged with second-offense simple possession of marijuana, and Bryant was charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana.

Mathieu was a star kick returner and cornerback for the Tigers last year, when he finished fifth in the Heisman vote and helped lead LSU to an undefeated regular season. He had been dismissed from the team in August for violating team rules (reportedly testing positive for using synthetic marijuana). After going through rehab in September, he had re-enrolled at LSU and was reportedly hoping to be reinstated to the team for next season. However, this latest arrest adds another big question mark to his football future.

Jefferson is also no stranger to off-field troubles. He is still awaiting trial for his alleged role in a bar fight last year that caused him to be suspended for the first four games of last season.
