She was celebrated by her school as the 2013 Pearland ISD Teacher of the Year, and now a community is heartbroken and searching for answers after Tracie Burroughs ( died early Tuesday morning, just a few hours after the onset of flu-like symptoms.  

According to a report in the Houston Chronicle, Burroughs reported to Pearland High School on Monday, February 10th where she taught Spanish.  She started feeling ill and took time off to go to an urgent care clinic.  Later that night, she began feeling worse while at her home.  It was there that she collapsed and EMS was called.  She was pronounced dead at Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital around 4 a.m.

No statement has been released as to the exact cause of death.
