2003 – The U.S. Postal Service unveils a stamp featuring Roy Acuff during a ceremony at the Grand Ole Opry House. The art is based on a photo that appeared in a 1949 edition of “Collier’s” magazine.


1996 – LeAnn Rimes sings “Blue” in her first appearance on the Grand Ole Opry, along with “I Wanna Be A Cowboy’s Sweetheart” and “Blue Moon Of Kentucky”.


1975 – Guitarist Joe Don Rooney born in Baxter Springs, Kansas. He joins Rascal Flatts, whose infectious debut single “Prayin’ For Daylight” sets the band on a path to six straight Vocal Group of the Year honors from the Country Music Association.


1973 – Tom T. Hall records “I Love” at mid-day at the Mercury Custom Studios in Nashville.


1911 – Bill Monroe born in Rosine, Kentucky. Recognized as the “Father of Bluegrass,” he joins the Grand Ole Opry in 1939 and enters the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1970.
