Jake Owen Has Part of Finger Removed Before Nashville Block Party
Jake Owen had part of his right ring finger removed on Monday (Aug. 19), just hours before playing a huge free show in downtown Nashville. The procedure was a result of injuries he sustained during a go-kart accident last month.
On Sunday, Owen noticed the finger was bleeding. According to WZTV-TV in Nashville, doctors recommended it be removed on Monday. The singer was in significant pain as he took the stage to perform with Dierks Bentley, Thomas Rhett, Florida Georgia Line and the Cadillac Three during his summer block party on Music Row.
“They just went ahead and amputated the last half of it off,” Owen said before the show, according to WWGP. “Kinda trying to pretend it doesn’t hurt right now, but it’s a little sensitive. Sensitive’s a good word.” The finger was infected, and while the ‘Days of Gold’ singer begged his medical team to leave it on until Tuesday, they wouldn’t budge.
The concert was a huge success. Thousands packed Music Row to watch singer after singer join Owen for songs like ‘Summer Jam’ and their own hits. Bentley played ‘5-1-5-0.’ Rhett performed his current single, ‘It Goes Like This.’
The show was a No. 1 celebration for Owen’s hit ‘Anywhere With You.’ The block party took place in the back of the BMI building and brought out more than 20,000 country music fans.
