When I arrived in Deep East Texas over 25 years ago, one of the first persons I was introduced to was the President/CEO of the Lufkin/Angelina County Chamber of Commerce - Jerry Huffman.

My boss, Larry Gunter, wanted me to meet not only one of his best friends, but one of the true community leaders of this area.  Jerry Huffman is certainly that and much, much more.  His vision, professionalism, and initiative have been second to none.  Plus, his actions show that he is a wonderful Christian man who lives his life by the Golden Rule.

Jerry Huffman submitted his resignation earlier today after 30 years of impeccable service to our community (his statement via the Chamber Facebook page is below).  He will certainly be missed, but I can't help but be happy for Jerry and his wife as they embark on other avenues.

Many blessings to you, Jerry, it won't be the same without you.

After much deliberation on my part I announced my retirement to the Chamber Executive Committee today. It was with mixed emotions that this decision was reached, but my desire to pursue other activities has increased - it is time for a change.

The Lufkin/Angelina County Chamber has been my passion for over 30 years and I leave knowing it is a strong, respected organization, both locally and across this great state. I have been blessed, not only for being your Chamber executive, but to have served with awesome leadership that had the vision to make our community grow and become what it is today and make the Chamber an integral part of that growth. It is my wish that the vision of that leadership continue and the years ahead make Lufkin/Angelina County the vibrant and dynamic community we all want it to be.

This is an awesome Chamber, with awesome volunteers and leadership, and I am confident the best years for this organization and our community are ahead.

My proposed retirement date is May 31st and the Chamber Executive Committee will be presenting a plan to the Board next week to replace the President/CEO position as quickly as possible.

Thank you for allowing me the privilege to serve this Chamber!
Jerry Huffman, CCE
