2006 – Heidi Newfield gives her final performances as a member of Trick Pony as the band holds three concerts at Nashville’s Wildhorse Saloon. Two of the shows are recorded for a live album.


2005 – The Johnny Cash biopic “Walk The Line” earns multiple nominations in the Golden Globe awards. Dolly Parton gets a Best Song nod for “Travelin’ Thru,” from “Transamerica,” and Bernie Taupin scores for a “Brokeback Mountain” song performed by Emmylou Harris.


2001 – Brenda Lee and Chet Atkins are announced as inductees into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Rockers with country ties also joining: Gene Pitney, Tom Petty, Isaac Hayes and Stax Records founder James Stewart.


1994 – “I Swear” is nominated for the American Music Awards for Favorite Single in both the soul/rhythm & blues field and in country, recognizing separate renditions by All-4-One and John Michael Montgomery.


1989 – Taylor Swift born in Reading, Pennsylvania. The multi-platinum singer-songwriter wins the Grammy for Album of the Year with “Fearless” and wins the Country Music Association’s Entertainer of the Year twice before turning 22.


1974 – George Jones leaves Tammy Wynette permanently.


1954 – John Anderson born in Orlando, Florida. Borrowing vocally from Lefty Frizzell, he earns the Country Music Association’s Horizon award in 1983 and nets hits with “Swingin’,” “Money In The Bank” and “Straight Tequila Night”.


1949 – Randy Owen born in Fort Payne, Alabama. He becomes the lead singer for Alabama, whose blend of country and Southern rock yields numerous gold and platinum honors and a place in the Country Music Hall of Fame.


1930 – Buck White, of The Whites, born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Along with daughters Cheryl and Sharon, he earns bluegrass-inflected hits in the early-1980s with “Hangin’ Around,” “You Put The Blue In Me” and “Give Me Back That Old Familiar Feeling”.
