Nacogdoches High School Student Council Advisor and Journalism teacher, Katherine P. Whitbeck received the Anne K. Wallace Award for Excellence in Teaching at the Nacogdoches ISD 2015 Convocation on August 19th for her outstanding performance in the district.

This award is given annually in recognition of outstanding dedication to the instruction of students in the Nacogdoches Independent School District and exceptional teaching performance. The award was first given in 2007, in honor of the late Mrs. Anne K. Wallace, who was a long time for Nacogdoches ISD. In memory of Mrs. Wallace, her sons donated and worked with the district to establish this prestigious award.

Each year, after completing a rigorous application process, a teacher from the district is selected by a committee to receive the award. The proud recipient is given a check in the amount of $1,000 and their name is inscribed on a plaque, which hangs from the walls of the E. J. Campbell District Support Center.

Mrs. Whitbeck has served at Nacogdoches High School in several teaching capacities throughout her career including English, ESL English and Math, Prose Interpretation, Poetry, Theatre and Journalism/Yearbook. She also has served as the NHS Student Counsel Advisor, Culture Exchange Club sponsor and as the Language Proficiency Assessment Committee (LPAC) coordinator. Mrs. Whitbeck has taught for Nacogdoches ISD for 30 years.
