Kellie Pickler’s Drummer Surprises Her With Onstage Reunion After Car Accident

Less than two months after suffering serious injuries in a terrible car accident, Gregg Lohman — drummer for country’s Kellie Pickler — surprised the star with a triumphant return to the stage at a concert in Illinois on Friday (April 26).

Lohman was driving south on Interstate 65 in Kentucky on March 2 when he was involved in a four-car pileup. Traffic had apparently slowed while drivers were looking at another wreck on the northbound side of the median, causing the accident on the other side of the road. The drummer was struck from behind by a tractor trailer, suffering head and neck injuries.

Pickler immediately took to her social media accounts to ask fans for their help after hearing of the accident. “Gregg is not just my drummer, he is family,” she wrote. “I believe in miracles and the power of prayer, so it would mean the world to me, my band, and Gregg’s family if you would please keep him in your prayers.”

Lohman — who has also performed with Lady Antebellum and SHeDAISY — was released from the hospital in mid-March, and still faces physical therapy. But he is doing so well that he was able to arrange a surprise for Pickler at her show in Effingham, Ill. — which happens to be his hometown. When Pickler came out for her encore, she found her longtime bandmate and friend sitting behind the drums.

Pickler’s ‘Dancing With the Stars’ partner Derek Hough posted several pictures to Instagram to capture the special moment. The country star shared her own reaction in the following post to Facebook:

Hey Y’all,
So I had a show in MN on Thursday night then bussed it to Illinois for another gig. I cannot even describe how beautifully overwhelming last night’s show was. Not only were the people amazing but I also witnessed a miracle. Many of you know about my drummer Gregg and the horrible car accident he was just recently in. Gregg has played drums for me since my very 1st show after Idol. He has NEVER missed a show in the 7 yrs he’s been with me. Last night we happened to be playing in Gregg’s hometown so his family and Gregg were able to come to the show. Little did I know Gregg was going to surprise me by playing drums for my encore song “Red High Heels”. When I hit the stage and saw that Gregg was now sitting behind his drum set I fell to pieces. It was special moment for me as well as my band and crew. For those who do not believe in miracles, we witnessed one last night. There is so much power in prayers, thank you all again for keeping Gregg in yours. XO Pickler
