By now there is no doubt that Kelly Clarkson can slay every cover she performs during her live shows. On this tour alone we've heard her pay tribute to Taylor Swift, N Sync, Rihanna and so many more. This week really might have taken the cake, though, when she covered country legend Dolly Parton's 1974 hit "Jolene" at a tour stop in Albuquerque.

Just as she does at every show, Clarkson took a request from an audience member on what they would like to hear her play outside of her normal set list. This week, audience member Robert Nunez's choice was the winner, and he also happened to be standing at the feet of the original American Idol champ.

Clarkson kept Parton's emotion in the song, but added her own soulful twist. She definitely did the iconic song justice.

The tune may sound scandalous, but it was actually inspired by Parton's husband's innocent flirtation with a red-headed banker.

“She got this terrible crush on my husband,” Parton explained. “And he just loved going to the bank because she paid him so much attention. It was kinda like a running joke between us — when I was saying, ‘Hell, you’re spending a lot of time at the bank. I don’t believe we’ve got that kind of money.’ So it’s really an innocent song all around, but sounds like a dreadful one.”

Clarkson will soon be wrapping up her current Piece by Piece Tour, which ends on Oct. 17 in Vancouver.
