Thousands of residents of south central Louisiana have to come to the realization that recovery, relocation, and resuming their lives to a sense of normalcy will be a marathon.

Historic floods resulted in the displacement of over 60,000 residents in and around the Baton Rouge area.  Relief efforts have been massive, but still the need exists and grows.

Denman Avenue Baptist Church in Lufkin is one of many East Texas groups who have stepped up to help.  Members of that church hope to fill a trailer with needed supplies, then on Sunday, August 28th, that trailer will be driven to Bethel Church in Jennings, Louisiana.  Members of Bethel have been actively assisting with distribution of items since the flood aftermath, and they will distribute these goods from Lufkin.

Until noon Sunday, East Texans are encouraged to stop by the Havoline Express Lube at Denman and Timberland Drive in Lufkin and drop off items.  The trailer will be parked there until that time.

Some of the items that are being asked for include:

  • disposable diapers (kids and adults)
  • baby formula (powdered) and baby food (plastic containers)
  • baby wipes
  • bottled water
  • rubber boots
  • hand sanitizer and liquid soap
  • pillows
  • blankets
  • disposable rubber gloves
  • cleaning supplies (dawn soap, multi-purpose antibacterial cleaners)
  • toilet paper
  • toothbrushes
  • toothpaste
  • deodorant
  • shampoo
  • granola bars/snacks
  • new, unopened packages of socks (adult & children)
  • new, unopened packages of underwear (adult & children)
  • school supplies, due to flooding of local schools in those areas

Of course, money is always the best donation.  If you do have a monetary donation, you are asked to drop that off at Denman Avenue Baptist Church.
