I am a huge fan of Brandon Belt.  The former Hudson Hornet standout has been the starting first baseman for the San Francisco Giants for the past couple of years, and I've done periodic updates on some of his accomplishments.  But, Belt is not the only athlete with East Texas ties playing pro baseball.

And, some of those have been doing quite well as of late.

We will go ahead and start with Brandon Belt.  He has raised his batting average to .267.  Over his last 8 games he is batting .385 with a homer.  He now has 10 dingers on the year.

Next up is Hunter Dozier.  The former SFA superlative and 1st round draft choice of the Kansas City Royals is currently playing Minor League ball with the Idaho Falls Chukars - what the heck is a Chukar?  Anyway, his batting average is hovering near the .280 mark and Saturday night he had a walk off RBI single.  Plus, Sunday night he had two hits including his 3rd homer of the short season.

Meanwhile in Double A Minor League Ball, Trey Haley, former standout pitcher for Central Heights is sparkling out of the Akron Aeros bullpen.  In his past 10 relief appearances, Haley has pitched just under 13 innings and has struck out 8 batters.  In those games he has gotten 3 saves and has a superb 0.71 earned run average.

Congrats and continued good luck to our East Texas Athletes.
