Shelly Slaton was recently named Region 7 Assistant Principal of the Year.  Slaten is Assistant Principal Testing/Curriculum at Lufkin High School. 

The Texas Association of Secondary School Principals recognizes outstanding principals and assistant principals from the twenty region Education Service Centers in the state.  School Administrators are nominated and chosen by their colleagues within their regions.  Nominations are based upon exemplary performance and outstanding leadership.

Slaton graduated from Lufkin High School in 1992, and has been a member of the leadership team since 2005.  She sees herself as a lifelong learner, a helper of others, and a leader of learners.  Slaton is also active in the community having served on many boards including serving as the 2007-08 Junior League of Lufkin President.

Shelly Slaton was recognized as Region 7 Assistant Principal of the Year during the Josten’s Night of the Stars Texas Heroes Dinner on June 11, 2013 in Austin.  She was presented with an award and recognized in a commemorative booklet entitled Texas Principals, Texas Heroes.
