An historic year for the Lufkin High School Marching Band continues.

On November 1st, the band earned the state championship at the National Military Marching Band Association's State Marching Contest, and now it's off to New Orleans in January.

WorldStrides Heritage Performance programs has invited the marching band from Lufkin High School to perform at the Allstate Sugar Bowl. They will join marching bands from across the country in the halftime show finale of this major college bowl game. An invitation to perform at the Sugar Bowl is an honor reserved only for the most talented student performers from across the nation.

Under the direction of Scott Williams, the Lufkin High School marching band will travel to New Orleans where they will rehearse with the mass band and learn from nationally acclaimed adjudicators. In their free time, they will take in the sights of New Orleans.

Scott Williams has been teaching for 35 years and will be personally leading the Lufkin High School group of 160 students to New Orleans. “The Lufkin Band is unique in that we are a Military Marching band,” said Mr. Williams. “It is a traditional style of marching like Texas A&M University. We play marches and march in a 6 to 5 style. We are very proud of the Military tradition we continue at Lufkin and are very excited to be a part of the Sugar Bowl.”
