A caller informed Lufkin Police that around 9 o'clock Wednesday evening a man driving a vehicle at the intersection of Woodmont and Hopkins struck and damaged a stop sign.

The man fled from the scene in his car,  but he was quite easy for LPD to track down.  Apparently Arturo Ortega of Lufkin didn't realize that the damage to his front bumper also caused his license plate to dislodge.  When police arrived at the scene of the hit and run, they found the plate and quickly tracked Ortega down just a few blocks away at his house.

He was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and no driver's license.
