When it comes to high school football in the Lone Star State, it's Dave Campbell's Texas Football that year in and year out is viewed as the high authority on all things high school football in Texas.  Thursday, on a live online presentation, the preseason top 10 teams in both divisions of 5A football were revealed.

In Class 5A - Division One, the Lufkin Panthers are tabbed as the #1 team in Texas.  That places them ahead of some of last year's power teams such as Denton Ryan, Mansfield Legacy, and defending state champs Highland Park.  Lufkin will be playing at the 5A level this year after spending the last few years at the 6A level.  Combine that along with the fact that the Panthers are loaded with talent and play makers on both sides of the ball, and that's enough to convince the prognosticators that Lufkin should make a deep run into the playoffs and have a pretty decent chance of bringing home some hardware. The Panthers finished last season with a record of 11-3 before bowing out in the regional finals against Longview.

Here's how the preseason top 10 in 5A-Div I stack up according to Dave Campbell's Texas Football
