The following is taken from an official release from the Lufkin Police Department:

Police are investigating an apparent suicide in the Cracker Barrel parking lot that left a man dead Wednesday morning.

A woman called 911 around 10 a.m. Wednesday to report seeing a man slumped over the steering wheel of a grey, older-model Ford Mustang. When police and fire officials arrived on scene, they found the man dead of a gunshot wound to the head.
The man went to the restaurant where his girlfriend works to speak to her about a possible break-up. After speaking with her, he went to the vehicle and shot himself with a 12-gauge shotgun.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene by Pct. 1 Justice of the Peace Billy Ball. An autopsy was ordered. Gipson Funeral Home took the man’s body from the scene.
“This is just a very tragic situation for everyone involved,” Lufkin Police Media Specialist Jessica Pebsworth said. “Our deepest sympathy and thoughts go out to all the families affected by this tragedy.”
The incident remains under investigation and the man’s name will be released Thursday.  Cracker Barrel managers deferred comment to their corporate office.
