By now, a number of people in East Texas, and for that matter the nation, know about the police chase that took place in our neck of the woods late Sunday afternoon.

The hour-long chase started in Lufkin and went to Alto before ending in southern Nacogdoches county.  One of the most talked about occurrences of the pursuit is when the driver threw out chain saws, presumably stolen, out of his window and towards pursuing officers.

Well, now Lufkin Police wants those chainsaws returned.  Apparently, those chainsaws were taken out of the roadway by other motorists and they have not been returned.  Lufkin Police is giving these folks a grace period before they come looking for them

Here's the press release from the Lufkin Police Department:

The department is asking for the public’s help in returning stolen chain saws to their rightful owner after they were thrown from a moving vehicle Sunday during a 100-mph pursuit.
The pursuit suspect, Richard Kay, threw two Husqvarna chain saws – one $850 XP model and another $500 Rancher model – at deputies from the driver’s side window of the stolen truck he was driving. In a video of the pursuit, two drivers – one in a silver PT Cruiser and the other in a truck – can be seen stopping to pick up the chain saws from the middle of U.S. 69 south in front of a convenience store near the Idylwood subdivision.
“We appreciate the people who removed the chain saws from the highway, which kept them from becoming a road hazard,” Media Specialist Jessica Pebsworth said. “Now we want to return the saws to their rightful owner. Because the chain saws were in protective cases, we believe they will still be in working order.”
The chain saws were stolen from the back of a mobile home park in Hudson, along with several other items that have since been returned, including a generator, pressure washer, Weedeaters and vehicle rims.
If the chain saws have not been returned by the end of next week, the department will open an investigation into the matter and release photos of the vehicles in question.
Anyone with information can contact the department at 633-0356 or Crime Stoppers at 639-TIPS.
