The Lufkin Police Department is investigating an armed robbery that happened at Subway on Champions Drive Sunday evening.

According to an LPD press release, the suspect, a black male in his late forties, wearing a camouflage jumper (like a mechanic would wear), sunglasses, a do-rag and white gloves, came into the store around 7:45 p.m., ordered a drink and made small talk with the two teenage employees working at the time. The girls said he spent roughly 45 minutes in the store before robbing it.  During that time, they said, he used the restroom and asked to use the restaurant phone, so they dialed a couple of different numbers for him.

When one of the girls went to the back of the store to restock chips, the man walked up to the other and gave her a note that stated “Give me all the money in the register or I will kill you, then kill myself because I’m not going back to prison.” She said he went on to explain what the note meant, while holding a gun concealed in a sock.

After giving him the money from the register, the girl said, he told her to go in the restroom. She waited until she heard the door chime, signaling his exit, before coming out and calling 911. The other girl remained in the back for the extent of the robbery and did not know it had happened. The girls were not injured during the incident.
