Lufkin Police Looking for Missing Man

According to press release, the Lufkin Police Department is searching for a man reported missing by his father earlier this week. Jason Stevens, 36, was last seen leaving his job at Ross Motorsports on North Timberland Drive around 10:40 a.m. on March 2nd to walk back to his nearby room at Petty’s Motel after telling a co-worker he didn’t feel well.   

Steven's father, Bruce, reported him missing Wednesday after his son’s boss called looking for him when he hadn’t shown up for work. Stevens’ father said he spoke with his son by phone the morning he was last seen.

“He had hurt his hand at work and had surgery on it,” Bruce Stevens said. “Even though he couldn’t work on things, his boss was still letting him come in and take motorcycle mechanic tests on the computer, so he was still getting hours. He was happy about that. He didn’t have any reason to be upset.”

At this point, there seems to be no indication of foul play, according to Public Relations Specialist Jessica Pebsworth. When a person doesn’t meet the criteria to be put into a state or national missing persons database, it is Department policy that an incident report be taken.

“That report is then given to a detective to make sure the person isn’t in danger,” Pebsworth said. “If they are missing by choice and not mentally ill, a child, elderly, or medically dependent, we will do what we can to ensure they are OK. If they’re located, we’ll tell the family our findings, but people are allowed to just leave without telling anybody.”

Stevens is described as 6’1, 160 pounds with short gray hair. He sometimes wears a baseball cap and at times has a beard. Co-workers said he had recently shaved.
