Lufkin Police plan to issue a warrant for the arrest of Todd Sturgis, 26, for evading arrest after he nearly backed into an Lufkin Police Department unit while fleeing a traffic stop on Monday, August 13th.  Sturgis was being stopped due to warrants out of Tarrant County including  delivery of a controlled substance, evading arrest and kidnapping.

Officers first made contact with Todd Sturgis on a disturbance call in which he had been fighting with his girlfriend and was gathering his belongings to leave. Todd Sturgis and his passenger, Vershon Sturgis, 18, were initially allowed to leave as no criminal offense occurred during that incident. As an officer was getting back into his vehicle, a "hit" for Todd Sturgis' warrants came up. That is when officers attempted to stop Todd Sturgis' Ford Explorer.

He fled in his vehicle at a high rate of speed through the Lucky's Convenience Store parking lot, and headed down Homer Alto Road where he wrecked into a wood line. He and his passenger fled on foot.
